Festive Start of the Year with Beethoven and Brahms
The Landshut Concert Choir welcomes the new year on January 24, 2027, with an ambitious concert program in the historic town hall's grand hall. Festive choral music, romantic tones, and the special atmosphere of the Landshut Town Hall combine to create an impressive concert experience.
Beethoven's C Major Mass in a Special Arrangement
The centerpiece is Ludwig van Beethoven's C Major Mass in a rather rarely performed German version for choir and two pianos. The reduced instrumentation focuses the attention directly on the vocal architecture of the work: voices stand out clearly, merge in powerful tutti, and unfold a rich orchestration without a large orchestra.
Brahms' Song of Destiny Between Intimacy and Grand Gesture
Johannes Brahms' impressive Song of Destiny adds a deeply romantic sound world to the program. Between delicate, sustained passages and dramatic expressiveness, a musical arc is created that ranges from quiet contemplation to great choral power. Precise synchronization, differentiated choral sound, and sensitive conducting shape the stage performance.
A Choir with a Long Musical Tradition
The Landshut Concert Choir was founded in 1841 as the Landshut Liedertafel and has been shaping the cultural life of the city for decades. Its repertoire includes sacred and secular music, oratorios, mass settings, opera choruses, and major works of choral literature. Since 2018, the choir has been under the direction of Christoph Schäfer, who works as a lecturer in conducting and ensemble management at the Nuremberg University of Music.
Music in the Historic Town Hall Grand Hall
The grand hall sets a festive framework for this New Year's concert with its neo-Gothic historicist decor. The transformed center of the Landshut Town Hall, redesigned in 1878, combines representative architecture with a concentrated concert atmosphere. Here, the choral sound can unfold directly in the space, and the audience's mood can grow between festive anticipation and musical tension.
Conclusion: A Sonorous Beginning of the New Year
The New Year's concert of the Landshut Concert Choir promises an evening filled with festive sound splendor, intimate vocal music, and great romantic expressiveness. Those wishing to experience Beethoven and Brahms in a special choral setting will find a charming prelude for the concert year 2027 in the town hall's grand hall.
