Literature Café Landshut | Opening Hours & Röcklturm
The Literature Café in the Röcklturm is much more than just a regular place for coffee and cake in Landshut. Here, a historic tower backdrop meets a relaxed café experience right on the Isar promenade, and this combination makes the location so attractive. Visitors to the Literature Café not only enjoy a break from their city stroll but also experience a piece of Landshut identity: the former defensive tower, the proximity to the water, changing art, and a summer spot with a special atmosphere. The Röcklturm is located at one of the most prominent points in the city, connecting culture, history, and enjoyment in a compact space. The café on the ground floor is just as much a part of the picture as the exhibitions on the upper floors and the outdoor area with deck chairs. For many guests, this is the charm of the place: they come for a drink or a snack and stay for the atmosphere, the view, and the quiet, almost urban-romantic location by the river. ([erleben.landshut.de](https://erleben.landshut.de/blog/isarblick-vor-historischen-mauern-beim-landshuter-roecklturm/))
What makes the Literature Café in the Röcklturm in Landshut special?
The Literature Café in the Röcklturm is closely linked to the historic building according to city and tourism information, while also serving as an independent meeting point for guests seeking a place with character. The address Isarpromenade 2 already indicates how close the café is to the Isar; the official company page also provides a phone number, social media links, and a clear local reference to the Röcklturm. This is important for visitors looking for a Literature Café in Landshut: they will not find an anonymous gastro space here, but a very specific place with history, cultural relevance, and a location that leaves a lasting impression. The directories describe the café as a place for coffee, drinks, and relaxed stays, some with outdoor seating, reservations, and card payment. This makes the Literature Café suitable for both a spontaneous stop and a conscious outing. The combination of café, exhibition space, and summer meeting point gives it a profile that works particularly well in Landshut. ([erleben.landshut.de](https://erleben.landshut.de/unternehmen/literaturcafe-im-roecklturm/))
Especially in summer, the Literature Café unfolds its full effect. Several sources speak of deck chairs, a view of the Isar, and a relaxed, light-hearted atmosphere right in front of the tower. The outdoor area is therefore not just an additional seating option but an essential part of the experience. Guests do not sit shielded from the city but in the midst of a landscape of water, historic walls, and old trees. This mix explains why the café feels more like a small beer garden with cultural flair than a classic city center café for many. For search queries like Literature Café photos or Literature Café beer garden, this is particularly relevant because the visual impact is part of the offering here. The atmosphere is open, summery, and calm enough to settle down after a walk, yet lively enough to function as a meeting point. This contrast between historic masonry and light outdoor feeling shapes the place and makes it unmistakable in Landshut. ([erleben.landshut.de](https://erleben.landshut.de/blog/isarblick-vor-historischen-mauern-beim-landshuter-roecklturm/))
The gastronomic profile is also geared towards relaxed stays. Directories mention, among other things, coffee, chocolate, wine, prosecco, and a lively atmosphere, as well as reservations, outdoor seating, takeout, and card payment. This should not be understood as a high-end fine dining address but as a flexible mix of café, meeting point, and summer venue. Those visiting the Literature Café often seek exactly this combination: a place for a cappuccino in the afternoon, a drink in the evening, or a small break during a stroll through Landshut. Guest expectations are thus clearly defined: not a spectacular presentation but a pleasant environment with a view, seating options, and a friendly atmosphere. For SEO, this is an important point because seekers often expect practical answers for terms like Literature Café Landshut opening hours, Literature Café contact, or Literature Café reservation. The available entries provide these hints, even if the exact times may vary by source. ([speisekarte.menu](https://speisekarte.menu/restaurants/landshut/literaturcafe-im-roecklturm))
History of the Röcklturm and its use as an exhibition space
The Röcklturm was once part of the medieval city wall of Landshut and served as a defensive tower. The city of Landshut describes it as a former component of the fortification at the Isarpromenade, and the tourism portal adds that the tower owes its current name to the councilman Röckl, who is documented as its owner during the citizens' conspiracy against Heinrich the Rich in the early 15th century. The earlier designation Upper Fisher Tower also appears in the tourist presentation. This historical depth is important for the place because it explains why the Literature Café should not be viewed in isolation. It is located in a building that is already a sight in itself. This creates a special tension between everyday function and historical significance. For visitors searching for Röcklturm Landshut or Röcklturm history, this connection is the most important anchor point: one does not just visit a café but a place with centuries of history. ([landshut.de](https://landshut.de/node/547?utm_source=openai))
Particularly interesting is the repurposing after the renovation. The city of Landshut and the portal Landshut erleben report that the Röcklturm was carefully renovated from 1988 to 1990 and has since served as a venue for changing exhibitions of regional visual artists. The upper floors with their wooden floorboards, wooden sash windows, and lime-washed walls are used as atmospheric exhibition spaces. This is not just a backdrop but part of the experience: the historic space becomes a carrier of modern art. For visitors, this means that a stay in the Literature Café can often be combined with a look at or into an exhibition. This dual role as a cultural venue and gastronomy makes the Röcklturm so interesting. It is neither a pure museum nor a pure café but a hybrid place that expands Landshut's cultural offerings with a very accessible, low-threshold form. ([erleben.landshut.de](https://erleben.landshut.de/blog/isarblick-vor-historischen-mauern-beim-landshuter-roecklturm/))
This function remains vibrant today. The city of Landshut indicates an accompanying exhibition in the Röcklturm for the 2026 season and states that it will be open from Thursday to Sunday from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Additionally, the exhibition is always open when the Literature Café operates as a beer garden. This keeps the place seasonally flexible and closely linked to the café. This is important for planning because the Röcklturm is not a static place with consistently identical opening hours but a cultural location whose accessibility depends on summer operations and ongoing exhibitions. Therefore, those searching for Röcklturm exhibitions or Literature Café photos will find not only historic walls here but an actively used cultural program. The free admission mentioned by the tourism source further strengthens the low-threshold accessibility. A large part of the attraction lies in this: one can take a quick look without much hassle, enjoy culture, and then linger directly in the café. ([landshut.de](https://landshut.de/veranstaltungen/kunst-der-isar-begleitausstellung-im-roecklturm))
Opening Hours, Reservations, and Direct Contact
For practical planning, direct contact is especially relevant. The official company page of Landshut erleben lists the Literature Café in the Röcklturm with its address and the phone number 0871 9740474. Instagram and Facebook are also linked there, indicating that current information is likely communicated through social media or direct contact. This is helpful in everyday life because a place with café and cultural operations often has seasonal or weather-dependent adjustments. For guests searching for Literature Café contact or Literature Café reservation, not only the address is important but also the willingness to call shortly in advance. Especially at a location with outdoor seating and a beer garden character, occupancy can change quickly. The city and tourism pages provide additional context, but the specific daily situation is best clarified by phone. Thus, the Literature Café is a good example of a place where classic opening hours may appear online, but the most reliable information comes directly on-site or through the operator. ([erleben.landshut.de](https://erleben.landshut.de/unternehmen/literaturcafe-im-roecklturm/))
The online times found are not entirely uniform. One directory lists opening hours from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM for several weekdays, another mentions similar values, and the city of Landshut describes the Röcklturm exhibition operation separately with Thursday to Sunday from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. These differences do not automatically indicate a contradiction but show that café operations, exhibition times, and seasonal openings are not always identical. Therefore, those searching for Literature Café opening hours should understand the information more as guidance than as an unchangeable rule. For SEO and user intent, this is important: seekers want to know when they can go, and the answer must therefore be transparent. It is best to phrase the information not overly precisely but honestly: the published times vary by source and season, and for the current status, a direct inquiry is recommended. This is professionally sound and avoids false promises. ([speisekarte.menu](https://speisekarte.menu/restaurants/landshut/literaturcafe-im-roecklturm))
Reservations are also explicitly mentioned in directories. This is sensible for a café with limited outdoor space and good weather potential, as demand can rise on warm days. For visitors, this means: if one wants to use a specific time at the Literature Café in the Röcklturm, for example in the evening or with a larger group, they should inform themselves in advance. The combination of reservation options, card payment, and outdoor seating speaks for an uncomplicated visit without much hassle. Nevertheless, the practical rule of thumb remains simple: calling saves time. This is especially true for people specifically searching for Literature Café Landshut, Literature Café reservation, or Literature Café opening hours who do not want surprises. The available entries provide the necessary pointers, but they do not replace the current view of the operation on-site. Especially at a seasonally influenced location with art operations and a beer garden, this caution is sensible. ([speisekarte.menu](https://speisekarte.menu/restaurants/landshut/literaturcafe-im-roecklturm))
Directions, Parking, and Public Transport
The location of the Literature Café on the Isarpromenade is a clear advantage for anyone exploring Landshut on foot or by bike. The tourism portal of the city of Landshut recommends arriving at the Röcklturm by bicycle or city bus; the stops Altstadt and Ländtorplatz are mentioned. For drivers, the city refers to the public parking spaces on the Grieserwiese and the parking garage Zentrum on the Mühleninsel. This information is particularly valuable because it not only names any parking space but also paints a concrete picture of mobility. The Röcklturm is thus located in an area that can be easily integrated into a city walk. Therefore, those searching for Literature Café directions or Literature Café parking find the most important practical message here: not the direct forecourt is the issue, but the short, urban accessibility. The location is central enough for a stroll and close enough to the usual city center parking options to be conveniently reachable. ([erleben.landshut.de](https://erleben.landshut.de/blog/isarblick-vor-historischen-mauern-beim-landshuter-roecklturm/))
Another entry mentions parking options for drivers 263 meters away at the Altstadt/Zentrum parking garage. Together with the official parking information, a very useful picture emerges: the Literature Café is not intended as a pure drive-in destination but as a stop in a central pedestrian or short-distance context. In practice, this means that visitors should best combine their arrival with a visit to the old town. Those who are already strolling through Landshut can quickly reach the Röcklturm from the center, the Isar, or a museum and exhibition visit. The city’s traffic portal also refers to available parking spaces and parking information for the city center. This logically leads to the conclusion that the surroundings are fundamentally designed for short distances and multiple modes of mobility. This mobility diversity fits well with the character of the place: the Literature Café is not an isolated excursion destination on the outskirts but a centrally embedded cultural point. ([menuweb.menu](https://menuweb.menu/amp/restaurants/landshut/literaturcafe-im-roecklturm))
For actual planning, a simple rule is therefore sensible: those who want to arrive relaxed should use a bike, bus, or city center parking space whenever possible and plan a few minutes of walking. This is a logical conclusion from the location on the Isarpromenade, the official mobility information, and the described parking options. Especially at a place with a historic environment, walking to the Röcklturm feels appropriate because one experiences it as part of the urban landscape and not just as a destination address. This also helps seekers who are researching Literature Café Landshut directions, Isarpromenade 2, or Röcklturm parking. They do not encounter complicated logistics but a well-integrated location in the city center with several practical options. The fact that the site is also close to the old town and Ländtorplatz makes it particularly convenient for day visitors and tourists. ([erleben.landshut.de](https://erleben.landshut.de/blog/isarblick-vor-historischen-mauern-beim-landshuter-roecklturm/))
Isar View, Beer Garden, and Photo Spots by the Water
The real magic of the Literature Café reveals itself in the outdoor area. Several sources describe deck chairs in front of the tower, a relaxed view of the Isar, and an atmosphere that is especially perceived as refreshing in summer. The Landshut-erleben contribution speaks of a relaxed, light-hearted lifestyle with a view of the Isar, while other entries report on sitting under old trees, enjoying cool drinks, and being in a place right by the water. For visitors, this is the part that most distinguishes the Literature Café from other cafés. It is not just about what one orders but about the environment in which it is enjoyed. Those searching for Literature Café photos are often looking for exactly these motifs: historic walls, flowing water, summery seating, and a quiet moment between city and river. The place is therefore both a culinary and a visual attraction. ([erleben.landshut.de](https://erleben.landshut.de/blog/isarblick-vor-historischen-mauern-beim-landshuter-roecklturm/))
The location on the Isarpromenade also makes the Röcklturm a good stop after a city stroll. The city of Landshut describes the spot as an excursion destination with an art connection, and Landshut erleben highlights the summer operation with deck chairs and outdoor area. For many guests, this is precisely the ideal moment in the late afternoon or at sunset: first walking through the city, then arriving at the water, and briefly gazing at the Isar. This is not only romantic but also practical, as the place is designed for low thresholds and short stays as well as for longer sitting. Therefore, if one is looking for a café that can be integrated into a visit to Landshut, they will find a strong answer here. The Literature Café functions as a destination for an espresso, a meeting point for an evening drink, and a quiet place for a longer break. This triad of visiting, lingering, and enjoying the view is its charm. ([erleben.landshut.de](https://erleben.landshut.de/blog/isarblick-vor-historischen-mauern-beim-landshuter-roecklturm/))
Those who plan their visit cleverly combine the Literature Café with a stroll through the old town or a detour to the exhibitions in the Röcklturm. The official cultural page of the city describes the tower as part of Landshut's offerings of exhibitions, museums, and galleries, and the current accompanying exhibition for 2026 shows that art is regularly on display there. This creates a very coherent daily schedule: walk, culture, coffee, Isar view. For families, couples, or individual visitors, this is equally attractive because the place does not require special preparation. Even those who just stop by briefly can take in the special atmosphere. From an SEO perspective, this is important because search queries like Literature Café photos, Röcklturm exhibitions, or Landshut cultural site refer to this interplay. The Literature Café is therefore not just a name on the map but a functioning anchor point for a small cultural outing in Landshut.
Literaturcafé Landshut presents a mixed experience that unfortunately warrants only a 2-star rating, despite some positive aspects. This establishment seems to excel in certain areas while falling significantly short in others, particularly in terms of modern payment options. On the positive side, the service at Literaturcafé Landshut is described as superb. This suggests that the staff is attentive, friendly, and efficient, contributing to a pleasant atmosphere for patrons. Additionally, the location itself is praised, indicating that the café likely offers an attractive and comfortable environment, perhaps with a literary theme that adds to its charm. However, the café's major drawback, and the reason for its low rating, is its outdated payment policy. In 2024, the lack of card payment options is not just an inconvenience but a significant issue for many customers. This oversight seems particularly out of place for a café that otherwise appears to offer a quality experience. The absence of card payment facilities in today's increasingly cashless society can be a deal-breaker for many patrons, especially younger customers or tourists who may not carry cash. This policy not only inconveniences customers but also suggests a resistance to adapting to modern consumer needs and expectations. While Literaturcafé Landshut seems to have the potential to be a delightful spot with its good service and appealing location, its failure to offer basic modern payment options significantly detracts from the overall experience. This issue overshadows the café's positive aspects, resulting in a disappointing 2-star rating. For Literaturcafé Landshut to improve its rating and appeal to a broader customer base, implementing card payment options should be a priority. This simple update could transform the café from a place with potential to a highly recommended destination in Landshut.

A very nice café located by the Isar in the Röcklturm near the Landshut old town. In summer, you can comfortably enjoy your drink on the lawn with a view of the Isar in deck chairs, but there are also regular seating options and an attached restaurant.

Hi, Great location right by the water (Isar?). The chocolate cake was a bit dry, but the cappuccino was good. Price was okay, it was a bit difficult to get the attention of the young lady to pay. The niece of Sofia Loren personally works there, serving. :-) The boss rides a motorcycle and is looking for a warning vest to ride: if anyone has one to spare, please gift it to him. I would have loved to do that for him, but I wasn't prepared... So, worth a visit!

I love being here. I also lost my wallet here. The next day, my bank called me. An employee found it. Everything was still there. Super friendly, and I'm happy to leave a full review. 😃
