Mozart's turbulent wedding returns to the theater tent in Landshut

When Figaro and Susanna prepare for their wedding, the courtly order is thrown into disarray: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro combines a rapid confusion comedy with sparkling music and societal explosive power. On Friday, November 27, 2026, the Landestheater Niederbayern presents the celebrated opera buffa as a premiere in the theater tent Landshut.

A wedding day full of intrigue

Figaro and Susanna are about to be married and are already measuring their shared room in the castle. But Count Almaviva has his own plans: He desires Susanna and does everything to prevent the wedding. Bartolo, Marcellina, and Basilio meddle in the events, while Cherubino, as a love-struck youth, complicates every situation even more.

Comedy with political resonance

The opera premiered at the Court Theater in Vienna in 1786 marks a turning point in theater history. Behind the comedic play about desire, jealousy, and disguise, the ideas of the French Revolution shine through. The noble lords lose their self-evidence, while Susanna and the Countess together organize the resistance.

Music that makes relationships visible

Mozart's score unfolds its dramatic power in ensembles, arias, and finely nuanced musical dialogues. The music depicts embarrassment, passion, exuberance, and wounded dignity with extraordinary precision. Thus, every misunderstanding becomes a rhythmic impulse, and every encounter is a scenic intensification.
