Ice Pirates celebrate, Foxes lose clearly: This is how the DEL2 evening went in the East
Two home games, two completely different evenings: While the Eispiraten Crimmitschau show their efficiency at Sahnpark and defeat EV Landshut 2:0, the Lausitzer Füchse in Weißwasser remain goalless despite opportunities and lose to the Ravensburg Towerstars 0:3.
Weißwasser: Early deficit, no returns – Ravensburg wins 3:0
The Lausitzer Füchse lose to the Ravensburg Towerstars 0:3 (0:1, 0:1, 0:1). In front of 2,648 spectators in Weißwasser, Ravensburg makes an early statement: Erik Jinesjö Karlsson scores in the 4th minute to make it 0:1.
Weißwasser then finds its way into the game in phases and works its way to chances and power play situations. However, the decisive factor remains the lack of finishing power: The Foxes get opportunities but do not convert them. Ravensburg acts more determined in key moments and increases the lead in the second period through Mark Rassell after a combination with Philipp Mass to 0:2 (34th minute).
The fact that the game does not tip earlier is also thanks to Foxes goalie Anthony Morrone, who prevents a higher deficit with saves. The preliminary decision falls right at the start of the final period: Robbie Czarnik scores on the power play in the 41st minute to make it 0:3. The direction is clear for the last 20 minutes – and Weißwasser finds no offensive answer.
Crimmitschau: McCormick scores twice – Reich keeps a clean sheet in 2:0 win
The evening at Sahnpark is much more pleasant from an East German perspective. The Eispiraten Crimmitschau win against EV Landshut 2:0 (1:0, 1:0, 0:0). In front of 2,587 spectators, it is a close, intense game in which the hosts consistently take advantage of their few clear moments.
The lead is scored by Adam McCormick in the 15th minute – a goal that gives Crimmitschau stability. Landshut subsequently gets good chances but repeatedly fails to beat Kevin Reich, who becomes the central factor in this home win.
In the second period, Crimmitschau rewards itself again: McCormick increases the lead with a powerful shot in the 37th minute to 2:0. In the final period, the Ice Pirates visibly switch to securing the lead, defend it in a controlled manner, and do not allow any goals against. For Crimmitschau, this also means "breathing room in the relegation battle" – a result that carries sporting and mental weight because it comes from a hard-fought game with high error avoidance.
Assessment: Efficiency and attention to detail decide
Both games ultimately tell the same core lesson – only with opposite outcomes: Whoever converts their chances and remains cleaner in the details (power play, finishing quality, goalie performance) prevails. In Weißwasser, Ravensburg creates clear conditions with early and consistently executed goals, while the Foxes remain goalless despite having parts of the game. In Crimmitschau, two precise moments from McCormick are enough because Reich keeps a clean sheet at the back and the Ice Pirates defend the final phase in a structured way.
